Geo-Scientific Session for Educators in Al Dhahira
23 November 2015
Providing
a geo-scientific knowledge sharing platform for students is part of a
Memorandum of Understanding between Daleel Petroleum and the Geological Society
of Oman. Through this partnership, a successful geological session was
conducted for more than 30 educators from different schools across Al Dhahirah
Governorate; Ibri, Yunqil & Dhank. The session was planned and delivered
with an objective to provide a better understanding of the rock cycle and plate
tectonics, identification of rock types, geological dating and structural
geology of rocks, in addition to creating a commercial value for Oman geology
in both the oil & gas as well as the mining & tourism sectors. There is
a potential for integratingpetroleum geology in educational classes
for students in the region.
The
session was prepared by Dr. Salah Al Dhahab, Senior Geological Advisor at
Daleel Petroleum. He has over 20 years of experience in the Oil and Gas
Industry through working for Petroleum Development Oman (NOC), Shell EPT (IOC),
Knowledge Reservoir Petroleum Service Company (now RPS-KR), and Oman Oil
Company (upstream investment company). Dr. Salah has a BSc in Petroleum Geology
from the University of Aberdeen and a PhD in fractured reservoir
characterization from the Institute of Petroleum, Heriot-Watt University, U.K.
